Growing in Faith at The Esther School

At The Esther School, education is much more than academics. While students are challenged to grow intellectually and develop practical skills, their greatest opportunity is to know Christ and deepen their relationship with Him.

Bible classes, discipleship groups, chapel, worship class, mentor teachers, prayer gatherings, and programs such as God Encounter and Prayer Centres encourage students to continually seek God and respond to His work in their lives.

“If someone were to visit The Esther School,” Martin, our Discipleship Coordinator, explained, “they would see the life of Christ reflected in students. They would see that God is part of the culture and that this is a safe place for students to grow spiritually.”

At The Esther School, spiritual activities aren’t limited to specific times of the day. Instead, discipleship is woven throughout school life. Whether in class, meeting with a mentor teacher, or gathering for chapel, students learn that God comes first and are regularly encouraged to pursue a relationship with Him.

Learning God’s Word

For many students, their education begins with a strong foundation in Scripture. Bible class is a regular part of the school schedule, particularly in primary school, where students begin building an understanding of who God is and what He has done. Students learn about His character, His promises, and His grace through Jesus Christ.

Through memory verses, discussions, and practical application, students not only learn Bible stories but also discover how God’s Word applies to their everyday lives and relationships. From the time students begin school until they graduate, they develop a growing appreciation for God’s place in their lives. This foundation becomes an anchor that continues to guide them as they mature.

Growing Together

As students move into secondary school, they have more opportunities for deeper growth. Like many young people, students experience questions or difficult circumstances. Mentors and discipleship groups provide space for these important conversations while pointing students back to their Heavenly Father.

Through discipleship groups, students gather together to discuss questions about faith, talk through challenges they face, and encourage one another in their walk with Christ. Lessons are often shaped by biblical material, activities, and the questions students ask. The goal is to help students discover who God is, who they are in relation to Him, and what it means to faithfully follow Christ.

The opportunity to meet with a mentor teacher also plays an important role in spiritual growth. Through prayer, guidance, encouragement, and accountability, mentor teachers help students navigate challenges and offer advice.

A Grade 10 student reflected on how his faith has grown while at The Esther School:

When I first came to The Esther School, I learned that Jesus came to earth to die for us and that we can have a personal relationship with Him. Through Bible classes, discipleship, and my teachers' mentorship, my faith has grown. God is the one who guides us. I have learned to trust that God knows why things happen and to stand firm in Him during difficult situations.

“My teachers have encouraged me to pursue my goals while also keeping Christ at the centre. I am learning to walk humbly with God and to teach others about Jesus. I’ve also learned that we are ambassadors for Christ, and we have a responsibility to show others who Jesus is.”

His testimony reflects what many students at The Esther School experience as they grow in their faith. Spiritual growth is not simply about studying—students are invited to develop a personal relationship with Christ and follow Him in every area of their lives.

A Community of Prayer

Students find hope in Jesus, share it with their peers, and pray for one another. Every classroom begins with Morning Meetings. Classes gather in a circle, share what they are going through, and read a devotion. They finish this time with prayer, coming together in both joyful moments and difficult circumstances.

Many students also regularly pray for their sponsors. They are grateful for the individuals, families, churches, and groups that partner in their education. At the same time, we know that many of you faithfully pray for the students.

Though separated by distance, you and the students are united through prayer and a shared mission. As you pray, we invite you to join us in asking God:

• That students would continue to grow in their understanding of God’s Word.
• That students would develop a personal, lasting relationship with Jesus Christ.
• That God would raise up servant leaders from among the students at The Esther School.

Thank you for your partnership in students’ spiritual journeys. Your support creates opportunities for students to learn, grow in faith, and know Christ more deeply.
